Getting your NB to Meep.
I can't take credit for the original idea (although it was someone on
the NB list), but here, by popular demand is how to get the Beetle horn
to sound as Dr. Porsche intended.

among others).
Under the left front fender, there's a single bolt holding a V shaped bracket, which in turn holds the stock horns. Unplug the connectors by pushing the release and pulling (sometimes you have to push, then pull to get it to release), then remove the single bolt. I think it's a 13 mm. The new horn comes with a similar bracket which will let you mount it pointing downward, using the same bolt, at the same location.
The trickiest part is the connection, since workspace is limited. Electrical tape over one of the connectors, then tape it back to the wire, it won't be used. On the other one, you can release the existing female spade connectors by pushing a release with a jeweler's screwdriver and pulling them out the back. These will slip right on the new horn's spades. Polarity shouldn't matter. Alternately, you could cut the existing one off and crimp on a couple of 1/4" (?) female spade connectors. I've had mine just like this for a month, without problem, but a "to do" is to get some electrical RTV (silicone) to seal the connections, since they are on the top, and can (will) collect water.
Some people have reported difficulty in removing the contacts from the existing connector. An alternative is to get 2 male 1/4" spade connectors, and 2 female 1/4" space connectors. Make two short cables, each with a male at one end and a female at the other. You can then use these to connect between the existing connector and the new horn.
Happy "meeping!"
